Well , Martha Stewart, You Must Try Craigslist

So I was at the pharmacy waiting for Little Bits' allergy medicine (the allergist has just put her on Singulair and informed me that she is allergic to cats which, of course, she denies!) Next to me for my reading pleasure was a decorating magazine. Of course being in the process of moving I just had to glance. Featured were several fabulous finds from craigslist and the article continued to explain how you can update your look easily with such fab finds.

Naturally, I had to see for myself what craigslist was all about. After all, hubs could not complain I was spending too much money...blah blah blah if it was a "fabulous find" right? Right. The problem? Well I will let you decide for yourself.

This has to be the all time favorite "fab find"

All of the above are unedited and taken directly from Craigslist. I can safely say that I have not found fabulous but I have discovered one of my new favorite sights for entertainment purposes. Laughter is the best medicine. I think docs need to prescribe craigslist to everyone. What about you? Did you find the posts as funny? Or am just losing my mind? On second thought, don't answer that, well, the part about me losing my mind (from packing) I mean!

I love the one where if your offer is good enough YOU GET TO COME PICK IT UP!!! How generous!

June June 17, 2010 5:45 AM

Packing will make just about anyone crazy! I hate moving with a passion!!

areyoukiddingme June 17, 2010 5:53 AM

We love craigslist at our house - you always meet the most interesting people! My SIL met a cross-dresser in her search for a dining room set. However, my husband does most of the craigslist browsing (and posting). I usually read the Best of Craigslist (AWESOME!) and the blog You Suck At Craigslist.

Debbie June 17, 2010 6:38 AM

I have found and even bought some great stuff at Craigslist. However, I also get some of my biggest laughs there for the very reasons you point out. That sight has something for everyone!

mommymommymommy June 17, 2010 7:22 AM

Thanks for the smile!

As an Ebay seller, I do get why people repeat themselves. When my twins outgrew their big heavy Graco stroller and car set, we sold it on Ebay with "Pick up only" as delivery. An idiot in California bid on it and WON! When we would not send it, he gave us a negative! (back when sellers could give negatives)

In all the time we have done Ebay, we have had four negatives-all from numnuts who did not read the description carefully or did not bother to look at the photos.

Thanks for stopping by my blog this week!

parenting ad absurdum June 17, 2010 8:37 AM

This is awesome! I never considered cruising craig's list for comedy, but I will now.

Btw, I'm allergic to cats too, but I swore up and down my whole childhood I wasn't - I just had a twelve year long cold...

Linda Medrano June 17, 2010 10:20 AM

We've actually sold a couple of things on Craigs List. I put a table and chairs out in the garden with a glass vase full of lemons and a couple of lilies stuck in. I got about 20 people racing over to to see it and it got purchased almost immediately. Now, I am going to try and find that wonderful red velvet stuff in your first photo. Just don't go outbidding me on it!

J. L. W. June 17, 2010 12:09 PM

Those ads made me crack up. I have never been on craigslist for more than kids stuff (like when I was looking for a jogging stroller) and now I definitely will not (except for entertainment purposes). That velvet living room set is hideous!

Aging Mommy June 17, 2010 12:34 PM

I have never visited Craigslist but I might just have to stop by and see for myself what is on there next time I need a good laugh!

Momma Such June 17, 2010 1:12 PM

Ha ha!
Craigslist scares me! I have seen too many people getting robbed and so forth on there. Plus, look at some of those ads. I mean, c'mon, really?

Unknown Mami June 17, 2010 1:15 PM

Oh man, your place is going to look fantastic with all these fab finds! I especially think the red velvet couches and bunk beds will be a wonderful addition to your new home.

Mighty M June 17, 2010 2:37 PM

Wow - it's amazing what you can find on the internet! :)

Tammy June 17, 2010 4:30 PM

Makes you wonder huh? We have been very successful on Craigslist!

Sara @ Domestically Challenged June 17, 2010 4:41 PM

I adore craigslist for these very reasons!!

Sarah @ Picture Window June 17, 2010 6:22 PM

I'm laughing out loud after reading those, but I do love Craigslist. You can get great stuff (maybe just not the things you happened to find...)

Susan Fobes June 17, 2010 6:56 PM

I personally like the one with the red velvet, gilded love seat-who are these people? LOL! I don't do Craig's List because I don't want to get too close to what seems to be some pretty nutty people!

Natalie June 17, 2010 9:14 PM

Check out my blog, I just gave you a blog award :)

Mashuga Mom June 17, 2010 9:30 PM

Some stuff on Craigslist IS what it seems. Other stuff is just crap... hence the red velvet.
Too funny- g'luck packing-

Lexie Loo & Dylan Too June 17, 2010 11:19 PM

Now, really, I think you need that first set for your living room. Just imagine the statement it would make!
Craigslist is too overwhelming for me. I know some people love it, but I'm not one of them!

ModernMom June 18, 2010 5:53 PM

Craiglist for the comedy? Who knew! The only time craiglist makes the news up here is when some demented fool trys selling himself:)

LadyJava June 21, 2010 2:09 AM

Hey Alyssa..
hope you are well.. i've sent you several emails.. did you get them? pls respond..

Thanks

Alicia June 21, 2010 10:34 AM

I'm lol'ing at the "I don't use the bed no more."

Erin June 21, 2010 12:27 PM

I have had a lot of success with Craigslist but just as many failures. It's like a box of chocolates---you never know whatcha gonna get!

Martha June 21, 2010 3:52 PM

Those are hilarious, this stuff would be rejected for donation!!!

The Girl Next Door Grows Up June 21, 2010 8:23 PM

So do you want to buy my red sofa set, or not?!

I love reading these too as well as the personals!!! Those are super fun!

The Empress June 21, 2010 10:36 PM

Next time, let me know before you show my red velvet furniture to the world, huh?

Sheesh, NO accounting for class or taste, I see....

SoccerMom June 22, 2010 11:27 AM

Wow who knew there was so much crap on craigslist.

Ppl can get just a little crazy with their descriptions.

*LLUVIA* June 23, 2010 10:16 AM

LOL @ I will spam you!!!
I know what he means, though; One time I put an add looking for work, and I got nothing but spam replies and maybe 2-3 REAL offers. When I worked at a relay center (relaying calls for the deaf and hard of hearing), a lot of scammers used this service to try to scam people who would place adds on craigslist; the scammers always requested stuff to be shipped out of town and money orders--so, maybe that's why the dude was saying that.

These are hilarious! I read a lot of You suck at Craigslist! They have really good ones there!!!

I have had pretty good luck with Craigslist, but sometimes, the ads are awful. I have to admit I've never seen any as bad as the ones you posted, but I've just looked under baby items.

I am now following you. I hope you will do the same.

well you know the saying "one mans junk is another mans treasure". i think in a couple of these ads "one mans treasure is another mans junk". and expensive junk!

Life of a Doctor's Wife July 6, 2010 6:54 AM

Those are hilarious! Wow. The world is full of some real characters, isn't it!

My fave is the bunk bed - "I don't use the bed no more." Um. Why not? Also, if you are old enough to sell your bunk bed on Craig's List, I would HOPE you don't sleep there "no more."

I still wish we could have garbitch at our new house. I've always wanted garbitch.

I've seen that furniture from Harrisburg in a variety of colours. Seems to be the style of choice for many a European household. All I got to say is what the hell were they thinking?
