Blogger vs. Blogger

I'd like to seek pardon of those unfamiliar with the events that occured last week leaving a venerable blogger Erin at Mother Lode not exactly speechless, and with excellent reason. You may choose to read her post for a heartfelt, passionate, and complete retelling. Or you may accept this simple summary: unbeknownst to Erin a "fellow" blogger took photos of Erin's adorable twins she had up and posted them on her own blog...

Justifiably, the blogging community aware of this, through the alerting of one of Erin's diligent followers, reacted with appropriate anger, outrage, and support of Erin, of course. This issue has barely left my mind, as I'm sure is true for multitudes of others. Being the politically correct person that you know me to be, ahem, I offer you another side of the story. In fairness, I believe we must consider another scenario, demonstrating our compassionate analytical natures.

Think about this. The blogger, unknown in real life to us, might be a shriveled, shriveled, shriveled up old, old, old lady whose lonely existence has driven her to hallucinations as she awaits death in her urine-infused nursing home.Perhaps her suffering has lain dormant for all the years of her adult life...til now, as she blogs and "borrows" children from others...perhaps this the one ray of sunshine in her otherwise dismal life...perhaps the woman is suffering delusions of age-related dementia...not even certain that what's she's doing is wrong...maybe she's being fed intravenously and bedridden...are you crying yet?

Photobucket

Perhaps her feeble hands tremble so that she cannot even post on her own. A truly dedicated nursing assistant (as we know all nursing home aids to be) has chosen to help her, from the goodness of her heart, working above and beyond the call of duty to arrive early and stay after hours to fill this pain-ridden emotionally scarred individual with a mere few moments of vicarious pleasure.

Photobucket

Maybe not. Maybe she is merely unlike most mothers. Perhaps she is not the mother like myself who privately carries the conviction that her daughter is beautiful. She, unlike others, may know the truth: her kids are not beautiful. They're not even cute. Her kids are ugly.

Imagine that, if you will. Having ugly kids...and knowing it! I don't think I could bear it for a minute. Aghast and appalled at the sight of her own offspring's faces...daily seeing photos of beautiful children...children belonging to others...yet, unable to find even a glimmer of "pretty" in her own...oh, God, I feel sorry for her. I can't think of a way to rectify her dilemma or ease her pain...but I hope in the future, even though she's made her blog private, should she choose to read another...someone will kindly let her know I will share some pictures because I really feel bad for her.

Okay, going to be serious again. Just thought this was super funny! Here are the pictures I am more than willing to share. I know what you are thinking...WOW that is really nice of me and you know what? You are right. I am just a very nice person.

We all know newborns can look like little old men (even the girls) but beyond that stage? Can you imagine having to coddle an ugly baby in your arms? Tickle an ugly toddler? Kiss an ugly preschooler "good night"? Take a picture with Santa and hear people remark "How cute!" referring to the fat guy in the red suit?

How torturous to awaken each day with an ugly child in your face. Before coffee.

Erin, in no way does this diminish the travesty that you experienced. I hope you know that; I believe you do. I just hope this woman minimizes the travesty of her ugly children, too.

To those of you to whom my reference to ugly children may be offensive, not that your own are ugly, of course, may I suggest that in addition to an onerous comment you leave below you consider the formation of "Ugly Children Unite" or some other such to highlight the burden of this underserved population. For my own efforts, I, too, have trouble labelling children "ugly"....but, hey, it's not me doing so...it's their own mother!!!

Girlfriend needs to move to Italy, where her own ugliness and the ugliness of her offspring will be prized (see article) -

I did hear about that and it is simply horrible. It made me realize that i should put some sort of name on my photos although they could just crop it out I suppose.

Somebody stole my Feel Good Friday idea and tried to pass it off as their own (no biggie) and a follower stole my header that I made myself! That was a tad weird since she never mentionned it to me or anything.

Funny Post!!!

MiMi April 5, 2010 9:03 AM

Oh man. I never thought of this. I bet she DOES have ugly kids.

Must be my mood Im in today, cause I have an excellant sense of humor. I however am speechless at those photos. I think they are terrible. Sorry, its all about honesty right?

Aging Mommy April 5, 2010 12:28 PM

Good for you posting this today and lightening the mood on what has been a horrific time for Erin. I hope this brings her some much needed cheer. Good to see she is blogging today and in better spirits.

On a serious note, whatever the story the woman in question who stole those photos definitely has issues. It has certainly made me stop and question a little what I post about my daughter in the future.

The things that go on in bloggerville! LOL
Have a good night.

I hadn't heard about this latest blog drama until your post. This is really interesting - I've never been to her site, but ppl say she had "a lot" of followers. Not sure how many "a lot" is. Could she have just been a random person who wanted to make money off of a blog? - and so she scraped together a bunch of mommyblogs to make a mommyblog? Could it be two people who are making fun of mommyblogs and were like "we could do this without being moms or having kids and we could get a bunch of mom's to follow us and we'll make $$ and just cobble together posts from the millions of mommy blogs?"

A few things surprise me - one, that she took multiple posts from the same blogger, and two - did she post pics of kids, or actually say they were her kids? I think it is weird she'd steal posts from people's blogs she'd comment on. This all makes me think she isn't a real mom/blogger... I'm confused!

Susan Fobes April 5, 2010 6:58 PM

I am glad you are trying to put a light-hearted spin on this because otherwise it's very disturbing...

Much More Than Mommy April 5, 2010 7:20 PM

Horrible situation, HILARIOUS way to spin it! You are too much!

Sara @ Domestically Challenged April 5, 2010 8:26 PM

that is SO why my husband doesn't like me to put too many pics of our kids on the blog. I guess there are a few too many freaks out there who would do something like this, AND think they can get away with it. Hilarious posts that highlights an important issue. Great job.

Unknown Mami April 5, 2010 9:09 PM

Hey you don't have to tell me about ugly. Why do you think I wear a paper bag over my head?

Kate@And Then I Was a Mom April 6, 2010 7:42 AM

Ugly children just make my own kid look even better. They are so USEFUL.

Working Mommy April 6, 2010 12:54 PM

Kiki April 8, 2010 10:36 AM

great post. i visited your link to "The Mother Load" and saw her link to this blogger's site. i read the other blogger's side of the "picture" story. i sympathize with Erin's anger and frustration, but i go to Google to get photos, too, and see many pictures that when "clicked" the photo leads to a blog. i don't take other people's pictures off their blogs, but once photos of your family are on your blog, and it's not private, the photos are on the web and can be taken by anyone. other people could have her kids' pictures, too. i've read of adoption scams using pictures of blogger's kids on the web. horrible. i've even found my own pics out there. scary. so, i made my family blog private and i put my monogram on each picture. take care.

Kiki April 8, 2010 10:45 AM

oh, i also checked out the link Erin provided to the blogger that had her posts stolen and re-posted verbatim. two bloggers i follow have had their posts copied by others as well. i just think it's too hard to police this issue on the web. i guess i'm lucky in that i'm not a poet or a great writer, so no one takes my posts. take care.

The Empress May 25, 2010 10:47 AM

I hate hearing that crap.

Why are people like that? Just blog on your own life, alright?

Sheesh...stealing pics of someone's kids? Come on,already.
